Back in May of this year, Jane from Sew Create It posted about the Pay It Forward gift she had received and then asked for three bloggers who would be willing to sign up to continue the Pay It Forward fun.
I was lucky enough to be visiting Jane’s blog shortly after she posted and opted to play along by being the first to comment.
Jane is a fellow Canadian who lives in England with her husband and two daughters. We Canadians really do scatter ourselves across the globe, don’t we?
You really should check out her blog not just for the quilts she makes but for her lovely photography, as well.
My Pay It Forward gift(s) from Jane arrived in the mail yesterday.
It was so exciting to receive a parcel from “across the pond” as the Brits used to say when we were posted to CFB Suffield in southern Alberta.
And I just had to take a picture of the Royal Mail postage.
Inside were these lovely surprizes.
I adore the print that Jane chose for the tea cup on the mug rug and the matching tissue holder. They’re ones I could see choosing for myself. Notice the lines of quilting done to indicate the steam coming off the tea… how fun is that!
I am, like most Canadians of my aquaintance, a tea drinker and I’ll be trying out the different varieties in the box of tea Jane sent when I have my morning cup. And the chocolate… well I’m please to say that I did show a bit of restraint. I’ve only eaten half and will save the other half for a treat tomorrow.
Thank you so much Jane. I’m just thrilled with everything you sent.
And now to fulfill my part of the Pay It Forward:
How does it work?
- I will make a little something for the first 3 people who opt in to participate in Pay It Forward. International are welcome to join in.
- It will be a surprise and it will arrive when you least expect it….well almost. I’m bound to need to contact you for your address :).
- I will have 365 days to do it in.
- To get a handmade present from me, you have to play too! This means YOU pledge to send a little handmade something to 3 readers of your blog.
- It doesn’t have to be quilty – just handmade.
- You must have a blog.
- Once you receive your “little something”, you must post about your Pay it Forward on your blog to keep the fun going – be sure to use the Pay It Forward badge…and please only opt in of you can commit to keeping it going :).

Now that the three ladies who signed up to receive Pay It Forward gifts from me have received them and had a chance to enjoy them for a while, I thought I’d get the pictures posted of what I made for each lady.
For Katherine over at Sew Me Something Good, I knit a set of dishclothes in colours to match her new kitchen apron and oven mitts.
Line’s blog is Scribbles by Me and while I can’t read Swedish, I did see from the pictures that she has posted that they are remodeling their kitchen. So I made these dishclothes for her to use once the remodelling is finished. In her photos, it looked like they had painted the walls a pale yellow, so I chose a bright yellow yarn to make them with.
From reading through Just A Flip Flop Mom’s blog entries I learned that she is currently attending classes and probably has little time to pamper herself, so for her I knit washclothes instead of dishclothes in the hopes that they would encourage her to take time occasionally to de-stress with a nice long bath. The washclothes were knit slightly larger than the dishclothes.
As you can see, each lady also received one dishcloth or washcloth with a design knit into the pattern. I chose each design especially for the lady who received it.
And here they are all bundled up just before they were put into the envelopes and mailed off.

Two of my Pay It Forward packages have gone out. I’m just waiting for one lady to reply back with her address and I’ll get that one in the mail too.
I really hope that each lady will like the handmade gifts I put together for them. I’ll post pictures once the packages have arrived at their destinations.

Every once in a long while, the mailman brings something besides bills. Yesterday was that day.
Just look at the surprizes that were inside the package he delivered.
Aren’t they lovely!
Several months ago, I left a comment on Katherine’s “Pay It Forward” post over on her blog Sew Me Something Good. And as if the above wasn’t more than enough to fulfill her promise to send a small handmade gift to the first three commenters, here are the treasures I found inside the zippered bag:
Notice that the strips of fabric on the back of the bag match the pin cushion. And don’t you just love that strip with the cat peaking over the strip of fabric beside it.
You can find info on the little needle book on her post “Give your needles a pretty home.” I really like the idea of repurposing thrifted shirts. The fabrics are just so beautiful.
Each little treasure, has found it’s way to their new homes amongst my sewing and crafting supplies. I can’t thank Katherine enough. Everything she sent was just wonderful and put together with such thought and care.
Oh and of course… you have to know that the chocolate didn’t last long. 🙂
Note: Just to update those who commented on my Pay It Forward post… I’m working on your surprizes and hope to have them ready to go out to you soon.

I’ve seen this on other blogs and decided that I wanted to do this to set the tone for this blog. Different blogs have worded it differently, but the main idea can be paraphrased in this way:
To the first three people who comment on this post, I will send a small handmade gift. It may not be tomorrow or the next day or even next week, but within the next 365 days, I promise to make and mail a gift to each of those three commenters.
So please take a moment to comment and allow me to Pay It Forward.
